Farmers Elite Global, chaired by Lorenzo Coricelli, has submitted a €500 million bid for Deoleo, owner of brands such as Carbonell, Koipe and Bertolli, surpassing Dcoop’s proposal.
But there is a particularly interesting detail behind this operation.
For more than two decades, Coricelli has been looking to Spain as a strategic territory for the growth of its group and, since 2015, has been established in Luque, Córdoba, in the heart of one of the great olive-growing areas of our country.
His statement is particularly significant:
“We are more Spanish than Italian, and it would be a shame if the company were to be broken up.”
At ESUS we are echoing this operation because it once again highlights something we observe from our own field: the strategic value of the Spanish rural territory.
Interest in Spanish olive oil doesn’t begin with brands, industrial plants, or distribution channels.
It starts much earlier. It starts on Earth.
In the olive grove. In its productive capacity. In its location. In the water. In the management. In the possibilities of each farm and in the vision of those who are able to detect its potential.
When large international groups focus on our agri-food sector, they also remind us that behind every great industry there is a territory that makes it possible.
And that territory is becoming increasingly valuable.
